If the following basic principles of weight gain/ weight loss were included in our educational programmes growing up in school/college, what would the impact be on obesity in young children and adults?
Calories in V.S Calories out related to the calories we consume going against the calories we exert through activity / non activity
Calories IN .. are comprised of absolutely everything that passes your lips – Food, drink, alcohol, cooking oil, butter, sauces & even the stuff you eat at weekends (not to be forgotten)
Calories OUT.. are comprised of everything you put your body through to burn energy. This isn’t limited to exercise. We burn calories through non exercise activity such as walking, typing on your keyboard, lifting up your knife & fork. As well as involuntary internal processes such as heart beat, eyelids blinking, food digestion etc etc.
When we consume more calories than we burn, we gain weight (over a sustained period of time)
When we burn more calories than we consume, we lose weight (over a sustained period of time.
Over a sustained period of time means we have to be consistent with doing either, along with having the work ethic and patience to achieve the certain goal
